Re-creating

Edwardsville Art Center requested some smaller watercolors to have original art in the gift shop area. So I went through the inventory I had on hand looking for autumn subjects that could be cropped and collaged from 16" x 20" to create 11" x 14" matted paintings. I did enjoy re-creating from paintings that I enjoyed creating the first time! Here are the results.

Artists Statement

I create art from subjects that captivate me. I love sheer brilliant color, beautiful flowers, old shapely trees, sunrises, sunsets, corn fields, forests, countrysides and seascapes. I love to capture a mood or feeling that expresses the atmosphere and soul of a subject leaving out unnecessary details.

I experience a “joie de vivre!” as the French saying goes, an exuberant enjoyment of life as I paint. Excitement and anticipation bubble up inside me as I add water and paint to a fresh piece of white watercolor paper and observe organic shapes emerge while water and pigment mingle. I am captivated by the rhythm of the changing seasons and the sensory input of my surroundings, especially during my travels.

My art is a visual journal of my life. As I mindfully process what speaks to my heart and soul, I try to capture the beauty and wonder in travel journals and in series of larger paintings using a limited palette to create a kaleidoscope of color. As I attempt to re create a portion of the Creator's work of art as seen in nature, I experience the joy of integrating my inner and outer life intuitively through painting.

I agree with the declarations of J.S.Bach and George Frederick Handel when they inscribed on their magnificent compositions: Soli Deo Gloria! To God Alone Glory – the Gift is His!
